International Registry of Paramedics offers IRP certification to any individual or organization from any country that wishes to take their knowledge and competency to another level.  Our certification evaluations are based on current national and international EMS educational standards such as but not limited to National Highway Traffic Safety Act (NHTSA).  The IRP certification process consist of a computer based multiple choice proctored evaluation and formal psychomotor skills testing.  Our team of IRP Representatives, Exam Coordinators and Examiners are located in each country we serve.  Our faculty and staff consist of EMS professionals and are considered EMS content specialist.  We are available to serve any part of the globe upon request.  With thousands of questions in our testbanks we are able to validate each competency level in each certification we offer.

About IRP Exams

Candidates seeking international EMS certification take a computer based test at an IRP testing center location.  A linear computer based exam is at a fixed length and time limit.  All test items have been tested and analyzed for validity.  Each question requires each candidate to analyze the question scenario and apply their knowledge.  Some test items require a lower ability of knowledge while oher items require a higher ability of knowledge.  The test items require critical thinking, application, and analysis test taking skills in order to answer successfully.

Minimum Passing Standards

Each candidate must demonstrate a minimum level of knowledge and competency in order to meet the minimum passing standard for each EMS certification level.  The minimum passing standard is set by our international governing advisory committee and is reviewed every 2 years and as needed.  The advisory committee reviews each test item and estimates the probability that a person will correctly answer the item on the test.

Preparing for the Exam

Here are some suggestions that will help you be successful in passing an IRP certification exam.

• Review the current American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.  IRP exams are based on the most current AHA guidelines.

• Study your course textbook, workbook, or any study material..

• Although IRP does not endorse or recommend a particular study guide. It does recognize that it may be helpful to use study exams that follow NHTSA EMS Educational Standards.

• IRP recommends daily question practice a few weeks prior to taking IRP exam to enhance test taking strategies.

• In preparation for IRP Psychomotor skills testing IRP recommends you download the skills sheets to familiarize yourself with the skills testing process and procedures.  

• IRP certification exam result are a PASS/FAIL results and a numerical value is not given.  IRP does not provide dificiency results to any candidate.

The Night Before The Exam

• Time management is important.  Do not try to study the night before the exam.  If there is a topic you have not mastered, there will not be enough time to relearn to a mastery level. This will only create test anxiety and stress.

• Get plenty of rest

During The Exam

• Read each question carefully and take your time.  The time limit of the exam is designed to give you plenty of time for each question.

• Re-read each question if necessary and dont get frustrated.

After The Exam

• IRP does not release exams results at the testing center.  

• Your examination results will be sent to you by email within 2 business days after exam completion

Candidates With Disabilities

• IRP complies with the American With Disabilities Act (ADA) and offers reasonable accomodations to individuals with disabilities.

• Candidates with diagnosed disabilities should advise their medical provider to provide written documentation of the disability.

• Candidates must submit a request for accomodations to IRP.  Each request is analyzed separately.  Documentation of the disability must be current and provided by a qualified professional.

• Request for accomodations cannot be approved on day of exam.  All request must be submitted to IRP 2 weeks prior to exam date.

4. Wait for an Authorization to test email

• Preparatory (well being of the EMT, medical legal, pharmacology, EMS systems, illness & injury prevention)

• Airway Management and Ventilation (Ex: ventilation, capnography, oxygenation, supraglottic airway devices)

• Cardiac Emergencies (Ex: AED, ACLS, Myocardial infarction, EKG dysrhythmias, 12-lead EKG, Pit Crew))

• Truama Emergencies (Ex: PHTLS, ITLS, ETLS, traumatic injuries)

• Medical Emergencies (Ex: AMLS, EMPACT. Medical illnesses)

• Pediatrics / Geriatrics (Ex: PALS, PEPP, NALS, NRP, GEMS, AMLS)

• EMS Operations (Ex: Ambulance operations, ICS, MCI, HazMat, rescue and extrication, crime scene awareness)

Recertification Requirements

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR): The EMR recertification requires a total of 20 continuing education hours.  All CE hours must be from an approved CE provider such as Tx DSHS and or CAPCE.  All CE must follow the minimum required CE hours in each content. Non-approved CE will not be accepted.

• Pediatrics / Geriatrics 2 Hrs

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): The EMT recertification requires a total of 40 continuing education hours.  All CE hours must be from an approved CE provider such as Tx DSHS, CAPCE.  All CE must follow the minimum required CE hours in each content. Non-approved CE will not be accepted.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT): The AEMT recertification requires a total of 50 continuing education hours.  All CE hours must be from an approve CE provider such as Tx DSHS, CAPCE.  All CE must follow the minimum required CE hours in each content. Non-approved CE will not be accepted.

Paramedic: The Paramedic recertification requires a total of 60 continuing education hours.  All CE hours must be from an approve CE provider such as Tx DSHS, CAPCE.  All CE must follow the minimum required CE hours in each content. Non-approved CE will not be accepted.
